Flooring on Stairs

If you have stairs in your house, then chances are you have faced the challenge of what type of flooring you should put on the stairs. Your decision should be based on what you use your stairs for. If they are not often used, then you could use a different type of flooring than a family that goes up and down them all of the time.

Flooring on Stairs

If you do not use the stairs much at all, then you have many choices. You can tile the stairs, but this could make them slippery and very dangerous if anyone ever fell down them. You can put hardwood on the stairs. This also has the same problem as tile. It can get slippery, and they are incredibly hard if anyone ever fell using them. Marble stairs are also an option, which look very gorgeous. Unfortunately, this comes with the same dangers as tile.

If you do use the stairs very often then you are probably trying to make them more safe, especially if you have children going up and down them. An option you should look into in this case is for carpet.

There are many different grades of carpet. You can get a very high grade of carpet which will be very thick and full. You can also put a thick carpet padding underneath it. This will help to make the stairs a little bit softer if anyone were to ever fall down them. If you get a good grade of carpet, it will also hold up better to the traffic on the stairs.

There are different ways that you can have the carpet on the stairs installed. You can have it installed in what they call waterfall. This just drapes down the front of every stair, creating a waterfall effect with the carpet. You can also have it wrapped individually around each step. This method is a much more streamlined look than the waterfall look.

Whichever type of flooring you choose depends on the style that you like. You should take you living situation into consideration when choosing the type of floor for your stairs. You can visit a local flooring store, and you will be shown endless options of what you can have done to your stairs.
