When you have pets in the family, an unfortunate aggravation can be spots, stains and odors of urine deposited in undesirable locations. (eg floor shop) Here are some things you can do to remove these stains and odors.

Floor Cleaning

Wet Urine Stains or Spots
Regardless of the type of flooring, the first thing to do is utilize absorbent napkins, old towel remnants or cleaning rags to soak up as much of the urine liquid as possible. A good resource to learn more is www.news.com.au. Allow a few minutes for as much as possible to be absorbed.

It is important to take these urine soaked materials to the area where you want your pet to do his business. Placing these in that area will attract the pet there because you have now marked that spot in the same way that the pet would, with the urine.

The next step is to lay a new group of old towels or absorbent napkins over the same area. Then with hard sole shoes on your feet, walk, stand or firmly stomp on the area to get as much dampness as possible out of the floor material.  Now you must rinse and dry the area where the pet urinated. This must be done several times. If you have a wet dry vacuum that works best. If not just rinse and wipe with absorbent paper or towels. Repeat this procedure at least 3 times.

If any stain remains even when dry, you need to purchase an enzymatic stain remover from the pet store. The enzymes in this stain remover chemically break down what remains and usually allows the stain to be lifted.

Stains That Already Dried
To make sure you identify the true extent of the stain use a black light to help expose exactly where the stain has occurred. It is a good idea to mark lightly the borders of the stained area with chalk. Once the black light is out you the stained area will not be completely visible.

Use mildly warm water to rinse and dry at least three to four times. Absolutely do not use hot water or any other type of heat treatment, such as steaming. The high heat will cause a chemical binding of the stain to many types of flooring, or floor covering materials.

Once the area is dried, use the enzymatic stain remover or floor shampoo if the area is carpeted. Use lukewarm water again with a small amount of vinegar to rinse and dry again two times. Following these steps should help you take control of stained pet odor areas.
